The church of Santa Librada of Tables

In the province of Los Santos is the city of Las Tablas, known for celebrating the country's most luxurious carnivals, also the place to find one of the most representative churches of Panama, its history and architectural beauty. Under the patronage of Santa Librada, this church dates back to the eighteenth century, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1954.

The construction of this important Catholic church was completed on March 9, 1789 in Baroque style, but the whole building had to be rebuilt because of an earthquake that occurred on November 25, 1802 .

t is said that until 1958 rested on the church of Santa Librada of Las Tablas an urn containing , according to the elderly of the village, where land was crucified Santa Librada and some of the remains of his body , which reached Tables with the image of La Peregrina in 1671.

 The grandparents , Spanish newcomers headed toward the center of what is now the Azuero Peninsula in search of a Spanish town , and in the middle of the rocks , graced by sunlight , with beautiful face and radiant , they saw the image of a saint. The Spanish admired fell on his knees before the sublime appearance as if moved by a spring, to recognize that the beautiful stone statue had in front, was the image of the young martyr Galician , Santa Librada . Then the Spanish took the picture to his camp , but it disappeared . Again and again taken to the camp and again and again returned to the mound image of stone at this, the Spanish understood that the saint wanted to settle in the area. Since then to the faithful , Santa Librada was someone who gave his life for God , a model to be imitated in the love of God and neighbor.
